Founded in 2010 as Freeway Construction in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, we began with a 60 m² concrete driveway in Birch Acres. Through dedication, quality workmanship and determination, we expanded into construction, paving, concrete works and tar surfacing.
In December 2012, we relocated to Cape Town, becoming Expert Tar Surfaces, with operations commencing in 2013. This milestone expanded our opportunities and strengthened our road surfacing and construction capabilities.
During the 2020 lockdown, as businesses closed, God made a way for us to acquire our first plant and equipment, including a BOMAG machine, concrete cutter and generator. What seemed like a difficult season became a turning point, strengthening our capabilities and laying the foundation for future growth.
In 2026, MUKU HOLDINGS marked a defining milestone in our journey, with a strategic rebrand reflecting years of growth, expanded capabilities and greater ambitions. From our roots in construction and road surfacing, we have evolved into a diversified infrastructure, engineering and industrial solutions group. With our own plant, machinery and transport fleet, supported by five specialised divisions, we have the capacity and expertise to undertake projects of varying sizes and complexity. Our integrated capabilities position us to deliver substantial infrastructure solutions across South Africa, the SADC region and wider African markets. More than a new name, MUKU HOLDINGS represents our growth, operational strength and commitment to building Africa’s future.
